"Every time you win a series you get a little more confidence," Clark said.
"We've got to play with the same mentality, keep our same team game and go to
the next round. Bounces are going to go one way or the other every game,
so we have to keep working hard.
Avs Talk About Round Two
May 5, 2006

Karlis Skrastins (D) -- The durable Colorado Avalanche backliner,
currently competing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, hasn't missed a single
game since the 1999-2000 season. The 31-year-old's best NHL campaign
to date came in the season prior to the lockout, when he scored five goals and
put up a strong plus-18 defensive rating. An NHL player since 1998-99,
he has also played for the Nashville Predators.

Big blocks
Karlis Skrastins has given the Avs a big boost with his shot-blocking abilities.
Skrastins had seven blocks in Game 1, another three in Game 2. He added
three more in the first two periods Wednesday night.

"He's a shot-blocker, primarily," John-Michael Liles said. "And my frame,
I just can't seem to get to some of those slappers. But Scratch, that's what he does.
The only thing we give him flack about is he needs to block more shots."

Bettman says refs getting it right
"I think the officials are doing what we've asked them to do all season,
and that's uphold the standard, regardless of time or situation," Bettman said.
"That's what we promised at the start of the season we'd do, and
I know there were some skeptics who said we wouldn't make it to
Thanksgiving or Christmas or to the Olympics or through the regular
season or into the playoffs. But the officials are doing a terrific job."

Markets in NHL have own playoffs
Whether it's fair or otherwise, the "losing" market in this series
- Dallas or Denver -
will be perceived to be losing its affection for the sport, rather than
simply for a franchise perceived to have slipped.

In the NHL, that's part of the battle.

Five Numbers In Colorado's Favor:
by John Kreiser, NHL.com

71 -- Playoff wins by the Avalanche since 1996-97, the most of any team in the NHL in that span.

.909 -- Colorado's winning percentage when leading after two periods (30-1-2), fourth in the NHL
and second in the West behind Detroit.

5 -- Goals allowed by the Avalanche while playing 3-on-5, matching Ottawa for the lowest total in
the NHL -- and 11 fewer than allowed by Dallas.

16 -- Goals by Antti Laaksonen without scoring a power-play goal, tying him with New Jersey's
John Madden for the most goals scored without the man advantage.

12 -- Shootout wins by the Stars, the most in the NHL (including two against Colorado).
Of course, there are no shootouts in the playoffs, so that takes away a major weapon for Dallas.

Jose Theodore, Colorado -- For years, the Avs always had a built-in advantage
in net with Patrick Roy, the same way John Elway gave the city's football team an edge in
big-time games. Theodore is a former MVP in Montreal, but whether he's Bubby Brister or
Jake Plummer in Denver remains to be seen. In five regular season games with Colorado,
Theodore was a disappointing 1-3-1, with a .887 save percentage.
